How Vibhu & Lalit built Raison Meadows offering a magical stay experience in the Himalayan

#homestay - Catch Factory Road, Raison, Himachal Pradesh 175101

YC - What is your background? What motivated you to start and what is it all about?

Vibhu & Lalit -

Vibhu - I worked for around 20 years in a sales job but I always wanted to settle in Himachal. I planned well, considering all my responsibilities I got my maths right and then decided to start a homestay business in Himachal. I have been running this business for 2 years now and am enjoying my work.

Lalit - I have been running my own trekking and hiking business in the mountains. Vibhu and I met, our vibes matched and diversified experience helped us in building Raison Meadows

YC - Could you please share with our readers what is your current team size and their roles?

Vibhu & Lalit - We are a team of 6 employees in total handling - marketing, guest experience, dining, housekeeping and a gardener who help us in maintaining a beautiful and natural landscape.

YC - As a founder what primary functions are you responsible for, basically how typically you spend your day in the office?

Vibhu & Lalit - We spend our day at the cottage, working closely with our marketing team and others. We help in maintaining the property, we work with housekeeping to ensure our existing guests have a comfortable and memorable experience. We also work on new ideas to promote the property, on generating leads, and work on the feedback we get to ensure a better experience.

YC - Have you used social media platforms to promote your boutique homestay? Which channels have been very effective for your business?

Vibhu & Lalit - Yes we do usesocial media in promoting our homestay. We have used Facebook groups like BEST HOMESTAYS IN INDIA which have helped us a lot. We do get bookings from air BnB, Makemytrip and Goibibo as well.

YC - What according to you is the USP of your boutique homestay, for which your customers come back to you?

Vibhu & Lalit - The cottage is spread over half-acre area which gives ample amount of space for the guest and their pets to roam freely inside the premises. The river is only 200 mts from the cottage. No other property around us has a 360-degree view. We have fresh air, peace and mountain view and most importantly we provide a great experience- we have a good Tripadvisor rating as well.

YC - How do you manage expenses, typically what percentage do you allocate for marketing & sales, day to day operations and property renovations and enhancements?

Vibhu & Lalit - Due to Covid, the business has taken a great hit. Whatever we earned is being used in giving away the salaries of our employees. We also had to push funds for maintenance and renovations work. We are hoping things will be better again.

YC - Based on your experience so far would you have any advice for new Entrepreneurs.

Vibhu & Lalit -
